Navistar Co. truck manufacturer and also defense contractor recently announced that they received a delivery order worth $97 million from U.S. Army’s command of TACOM Life Cycle Management. This will further cement the position of the company for supporting the mission of security by providing a full line up of parts, services and vehicles.

The newest delivery order will include 265 transport vehicles for general troops, 829 net kits for RPG or Rocket Propelled Grenade as well as 160 buses for the MaxxPro mine resistant international ambush units which are currently in service. The President of Navistar Defense, Archie Massicotte, said that the key for success in Afghanistan is to ensure that their security forces are getting the proper support, equipment and training, and they are positioned for continuing to provide them these vehicles as well as supporting the government of Afghanistan.

Today they have above 11,000 vehicles which are currently operating in the Middle Eastern country and they believe that this shows the Navistar Co. strength behind the proposition. They continue to respond to both the U.S. Army’s and the allied forces needs quickly and today this comes to providing them with RPG nets for arming their war fighters against any evolving threats.

The transport vehicles for general troops have been based on the chassis of International WorkStar or on the platform of the 7,000-MV and will provide support for the national army and national police of Afghan security missions. The buses will help to transport the Afghan equipments and troops across the country. The RPG nets meanwhile are to be retrofitted onto the MaxxForce units which will operate along with the U.S. forces.

The other variants which will be serving in Afghanistan are water tankers, wreckers, MaxxPro MRAP as well as fuel trucks. The RPG nets will help to support the units of MaxxPro MRAP which are currently operating in the theatre where the threats keep on changing.

The production of vehicles for the transport of general troops will begin at the West Point, Miss. and Garland, Texas facilities of the company. The production of the buses meanwhile, will take place at their Tulsa, Oklahoma plant. The deliveries of these vehicles are scheduled to commence from the beginning of fall, this year, and to be done by next year’s fall season. The RPG nets are to be delivered till summer this year.
